5 Tips for Tulum Glamping

1. Don’t forget the “glam” in glamping

The thing with glamping is, there are levels — and what one person might call glamping, someone else might consider just plain old camping. Keep in mind that just because you’re traveling to a great place like Tulum, Mexico, your accommodation can still make, or break, your trip; especially when glamping.

The Tulum glampsites and Tulum treehouse resorts featured in this article all have that WOW factor. When glamping, the point is to have the best of both worlds: nature and comfort. While gamping is pricier than camping in Tulum, you get what you pay for in the form of hotel-style services and cushy amenities.

2. As the saying goes: “Location, Location, Location.”

All glampsites featured in this article are located in the best neighborhoods in Tulum — including Tulum Beach and Tulum Town (AKA Downtown Tulum or Tulum Pueblo). Below is a map of Tulum so you can get a better understanding of the town layout and a visual on where the neighborhoods are located.

3. Do you need strong WiFi in Tulum?

Tulum isn’t known for having strong WiFi at all, and even less so at glampsites and Tulum treehouse hotels. If you have to work during your trip, or need strong WiFi for streaming, read each listing carefully and double check before booking so staff can tell you what speeds to expect.

4. Do you need to have AC?

Take a second to recall that Tulum is located in the tropics, in basically a beach-jungle. Be aware it’s hot and humid for most of the year. While some of the best Tulum glamping options below do have AC, some just have fans. However, those located on the beach should get a nice sea breeze.

5. How do you feel about critters?

Tulum’s jungle location means you may encounter colorful tropical birds, curious monkeys, beautiful butterflies, and adorable coatis! It also means you might encounter scorpions (in Tulum, it’s usually not the poisonous kind), spiders, and of course, mosquitoes.

What do I pack for Tulum glamping?

Tulum, Mexico and the Yucatan Peninsula, have a tropical climate. As you can see by the Tulum weather chart above, this part of Mexico is hot (and humid 😥) for most of the year, so definitely pack this Water-To-Go Filterable Water Bottle.

Mosquitoes are also an issue, so don’t forget your eco-friendly bug spray and anti-mosquito bracelet. Do your part to practice responsible tourism in Mexico and use only reef-safe sunscreen.

As far as how to dress in Tulum — anything goes — you can dress as casual, or as extra, as you’d like. Head here for some Tulum outfit inspo, if you’re looking for a visual on what to wear in Tulum.

For the Tulum vibe, think flowy, tropical, breathable, cotton, and light-colored clothing; bonus points for anything that doesn’t show sweat! Besides a light cardigan at night, Tulum is the place for sundresses, sun hats, sunglasses and bathing suits.

Final Thoughts: Tulum Glamping

Is Tulum worth visiting for glamping?

Tulum glamping is a wonderful way to enjoy this Mexico beach town in the Yucatan Peninsula. If you’re up for a unique experience, you’ll really enjoy glamping in Tulum. As with most things, especially if you’re a first time glamper, remember to manage your expectations so you’re not let down by the experience.

As the word glamping tells us, there’s a rustic camping-style element to this experience. This is part of the charm of glamping, and, one of the things you’ll have to embrace to enjoy Tulum glamping.

Tulum is basically a beach jungle, so there will be humidity and bugs, though there’s much less of both in the winter/spring months from about November-March. The trade off for losing out on some of that enclosed resort comfort is that you’ll fall asleep under the stars to the sounds of nature.
