Hoping to see Celebs in Mexico?

There are many luxury travel destinations in Mexico that attract celebrities — including Los Cabos, San Miguel de Allende, Punta de Mita, Costa Careyes, Riviera Maya, and Mexico City.

As a travel journalist who has contributed to more than 30 publications, including Lonely Planet and Condé Nast Traveler, I’ve been to many of them.

That’s right — I’ve stayed in some of the top resorts where you can see celebs in Mexico — and I’m spotlighting them all here in this article.

From mangrove-wrapped hideaways to beachfront marvels with private pools, keep reading to see the Top 10 luxury Mexico resorts where your next-door neighbor might just be an Oscar winner.

10 Luxury Hotels Where You Can See Celebs in Mexico

1. One&Only Palmilla

One&Only Palmilla didn’t just show up to the luxury game in Los Cabos — it helped invent it.

Built in the 1950s by the son of a former Mexican president, this storied resort originally welcomed Hollywood stars and world leaders arriving by yacht or private plane.

Set on the glittering shores of the Sea of Cortez, it still wears its legacy well today.

Ask any Los Cabos local who the celebrity “Queen of Cabo” is, and they’ll likely say Jennifer Aniston (though now that Britney Spears lives in Cabo, she might take the title 🤔).

Aniston has repeatedly made One&Only Palmilla her coastal sanctuary over the years, often visiting with real-life and on-screen bestie Courteney Cox in tow.

Other celebrity fans include Oprah, Nick Jonas (who named his tequila brand, Villa One, after the villa he stayed in there), Gwyneth Paltrow, Ashton Kutcher, and Miles Teller, who celebrated a birthday at the resort with his wife.

A-list celebs are accustomed to living in the lap of luxury, so you can expect nothign short of impeccable amenities at One&Only Palmilla.

They’re also famous for 5-Star service that makes you feel utterly cared for, endlessly at ease, and just a little bit famous yourself.

2. Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal

Add some silver-screen magic to your Mexico vacation with a stay at the Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal.

Tucked behind a private tunnel, this stunning resort was the Waldorf Astoria brand’s first foray into Mexico in 2019.

A-listers, including NBA legend Michael Jordan ⛹🏾‍♂️, clearly got the memo that this was the place to be.

Riverdale stars Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse snuck away here for a romantic escape, while Olivia Culpo, Shay Mitchell, Wiz Khalifa, and even the D’Amelio family have all made appearances.

💍 In a wedding filled with music royalty, Justin Timberlake’s longtime manager, Johnny Wright, wed famous Mexican singer, Miriam Solis, here.

Everything about this resort is a cinematic experience.

Every suite (including the entry-level ones) comes with an ocean view, plunge pool, and rainfall shower.

You can sip Veuve Clicquot champagne at the beach bar, indulge in Mexican-inspired treatments at the award-winning spa designed by Sylvia Sepielli.

You can also dine under the stars at one of the cliffside restaurants serving authentic Mexican dishes for the most refined palates.

3. Rosewood Mayakoba

Of all the properties I have visited in Riviera Maya (and there have been many), Rosewood Mayakoba is my all-time favorite.

If my budget allowed it, I would never check out.

This all-suite sanctuary near Playa del Carmen is Venice meets Eden, with winding canals flanked by mangroves, a spa located on its own private island, and its very own private cenote.

À la James Bond, you arrive at your sleek suite by boat (they have some of the best overwater bungalows in Mexico), and everyone gets a bike to explore the lush grounds 🚲

I was lucky enough to stay in one of the bi-level Wellness Suites, which was a sunlight-drenched, incense-scented hideaway complete with a private plunge pool and outdoor shower.

The resort has become an unofficial headquarters for glamorous getaways and celebratory soul-searching alike.

Peloton instructor/influencer/entrepreneur Ally Love got engaged and tied the knot on the property in a days-long celebration worthy of a magazine spread.

The resort is also front and center in the second episode of Solo Traveling with Tracee Ellis Ross, where the star gets up to some cocktail mixology and luxuriating by the pool.

But you don’t need a camera crew to feel extraordinary there; the service is impeccable, so everyone gets A-list treatment.

4. Las Ventanas al Paraíso, A Rosewood Hotel

Picture seven pools, a jacuzzi grotto, a speakeasy, a tennis academy, and a Tequila & Ceviche Bar where you’re blindfolded for taste tests.

Las Ventanas al Paraíso, A Rosewood Resort is a star-studded resort in Cabo where you might find Ryan Seacrest recovering from a long taping schedule.

You may also see Sophie Richie clad in head-to-toe designer gear, or Selling Sunset‘s Emma Hernan dining at Arbol or sipping cocktails at La Botica 🍸, the on-site speakeasy and piano bar.

George Clooney? He’s been known to check into one of the resort’s accommodations for the kind of privacy even Lake Como, Italy, can’t guarantee.

Tarek and Heather Rae El Moussa of HGTV’s The Flipping El Moussas know good real estate — and this is also their resort of choice.

Located along the Tourist Corridor of Los Cabos, the resort has many charms, but the spa is one of the biggest draws.

Jennifer Lopez, Cameron Diaz, and Jessica Alba are all said to have melted into massage tables at The Spa at Las Ventanas.

5. Nobu Los Cabos

The celebrity clientele at Nobu Los Cabos makes perfect sense when you consider that it was co-founded by screen icon Robert De Niro and culinary legend, Nobu Matsuhisa.

Hollywood royalty come to tan, taste, and temporarily disappear into luxe lodgings designed with an Instagrammable Japan-meets-Mexico aesthetic.

Justin Bieber has called it home, Vanessa Hudgens brought her family, and a slew of other celebs have vacationed here.

These include Leonardo DiCaprio, Eva Longoria, Brooke Burke, Nicole Scherzinger, Busy Phillips, Gwyneth Paltrow, Taraji P Henson, and Allison Janney.

Katy Perry celebrated a birthday there, and Olympian Simone Biles even chose it as her destination wedding venue.

The on-site Nobu restaurant lives up to its global reputation, and every room features a teak soaking tub, and some even offer swim-up access.

One surprising (but delightful) perk is the heated toilet seats. Multiple pools, a spa, and cocktail bars round out the indulgence.

6. La Casa de la Playa by Xcaret

Celebrities such as Lupita Nyong’o, Angelina Jolie, Ke Huy Quan, Malin Akerman, Emma Myers, and Noah Beck have all stayed at La Casa de la Playa.

Here, each sea-facing suite comes with a private plunge pool, personal butler, jellyfish habitat, and a hammock-draped terrace.

La Casa de la Playa is one of three exceptional hotels owned by Xcaret Group, the masterminds behind Riviera Maya’s most beloved eco-parks.

They also own Hotel Xcaret Arte, which is known as Mexico’s best all-inclusive resort.

The resorts are part of Xcaret’s “All-Fun Inclusive” experience, which means you also get VIP access and transport to the Xcaret Parks so you can enjoy a day of cenotes, snorkeling, cultural shows, ATVs, ziplines, and more.

After the off-site adventures, guests retreat to the resort’s 131-foot-long (40 m) infinity pool cantilevered over the Caribbean Sea.

There’s also the underground wine cellar (La Cava) for curated tastings and poetic pairings, and the 24-hour Chocolatería is open for any midnight cacao cravings 🍫

La Casa de la Playa is one of the most luxurious all-inclusive resorts in Riviera Maya, which is literally bursting with beautiful beachfront hotels.

7. Live Aqua Cancun

In a city of standout resorts, it’s hard to stand out. However, Live Aqua Cancun does just that.

It’s a rare unicorn of a place that manages to feel both lively and luxe, with all the indulgence you crave but none of the pretension.

It’s buzzy, located on a beautiful stretch of white sand in Cancun, and it impresses with delightful little touches like complimentary chocolate-scented hand massages at check-in.

In true Cancun Hotel Zone fashion, you don’t have to leave the property for anything unless you want to.

You can soak in seven pools, get pampered at the spa, take a tequila tasting class, join an energetic group workout, and eat world-class food in every direction (there is also 24/7 room service).

Live Aqua Cancun is 100% celebrity-approved — though it is adults only, so if you’re traveling with kids, check out these family-friendly Cancun resorts instead 👼

The Real Housewives of Orange County’s Emily Simpson is among previous notable guests, and Latin American and Mexican celebrities love it there, too.

Sharis Cid, Veronica Montes, Raúl Araiza, Minnie West, Vielka Valenzuela, and Miss Universe Costa Rica Karina Ramos have all been lured by the stunning resort.

8. Montage Los Cabos

I’ve checked into Montage Los Cabos twice — and both times felt like a very chic daydream come to life.

Nestled on Blue Flag-certified Santa Maria Bay, this biophilic beauty leans into its desert roots, with rock figs, agaves, and plenty of corners to please discerning guests with an architectural focus.

You can dive straight into the sea (literally, there’s on-site diving) or the wellness menu at Spa Montage, which is the largest spa on the Baja Peninsula.

🥃 Pro Tip: The mezcal renewal massage is reason alone to book.

Montage Los Cabos is where tech moguls, Los Angeles creatives, and the famously fabulous come to recharge. A-listers love it there, too.

Oprah Winfrey is among the resort’s most famous fans, and HGTV star Christina Haack got engaged at the hotel’s beach.

9. Esperanza, Auberge Resorts Collection

Esperanza, Auberge Resorts Collection is a cinematic stunner with Hollywood woven into its seams. Not just a luxury stay; it’s a leading lady in its own right.

The resort was featured in The Heartbreak Kid as the honeymoon hideaway that convinced Ben Stiller’s character to stay in Cabo forever.

New Girl duo Nasim Pedrad and Lamorne Morris reunited on-screen for Desperados, which was filmed at Esperanza under the fictional name of “Las Playas Resort.”

Perched cliffside within the exclusive Punta Ballena community, Esperanza is a favored retreat for the likes of Leo DiCaprio and British supermodel Cara Delevingne.

With 44 casitas, 45 villas, and not a single standard room in sight, Esperanza is built for barefoot luxury with an award-winning spa and infinity pools that are tiered for drama and quietude in equal measure.

10. AVA Resort Cancun

Live Aqua Cancun Resort (image by Rosie Bell)
Image: Expedia

If it’s good enough for Ja Rule, Nick Cannon, Julianne Hough, Jamie Chung, and Joe Jonas, AVA Cancun might just be a great beachfront getaway for you.

This glossy new resort is just 15 minutes from Cancun International Airport (CUN), but worlds away from the all-inclusive clichés of yesteryear.

Think 17+ restaurants led by award-winning chefs, ocean-view spa tubs in every room, a spa that’s over 66,000 square feet, and an 11,000-square-foot fitness center.

It’s clear that this place wasn’t made for spring breakers; it’s for Cancun lovers who have graduated to grown-up glam with top-shelf tequila.
