IS THERE AMAZON IN MEXICO?

If you are asking this question, you’re in the right place. This article has everything you need to know about using Amazon in Mexico.

I’ve been living in Mexico since 2018, in places including Mexico City, Oaxaca City, Guadalajara and Merida, so I’ve used Amazon delivery throughout Mexico.

Though I’ve had positive experiences with the company, it’s tricky to understand the small differences between the Amazon you know and love back home, and Amazon in Mexico.

So just what are these differences? This Ultimate Amazon in Mexico Guide will list them all for you, so ¡vamos! (that means let’s go in Spanish).

Is there an Amazon in Mexico?

Yes — There is an Amazon in Mexico, and it operates through the domain amazon.com.mx.

Anyone with an Amazon account in other countries can use the same login details to access the Mexican site — and there’s no need to create a new Amazon Mexico account.

Now, Amazon Prime is another story, and you would need an Amazon Prime Mexico account to take advantage of most Prime perks in Mexico (more on this to come).

You’ll want to keep other expectations in check as well; the selection on Amazon Mexico isn’t as vast as what you’re used to in the U.S., though it covers most bases.

To make your online shopping seamless, setting your Mexican address as the default shipping location is important.

This way, you’ll only see items that can actually make their way to your doorstep in Mexico.

In addition to the basics, Amazon México spices things up with local products and partnerships, offering a taste of the regional market.

And yes, if you’re a Mexico Amazon Prime member, expect perks like free shipping and access to Prime Video.

Last but not least, all prices on Amazon Mexico are listed in Mexican pesos (MXN) — though you can change your personal settings to show in other currencies.

Is Amazon in Mexico available in English?

No — Amazon.com.mx operates in Spanish to cater to the local population.

However, you can easily change the language setting in your browser if you prefer to navigate the site in English.

All you need to do is right-click on the page that needs to be translated, and a pop-up will appear (this is how it works in most internet browsers, at least).

Click “translate to English,” and voila, the page will automatically translate into English. You can also change some browser settings to automatically translate.

Is Amazon Prime available in Mexico?

Yes — There is Mexico Amazon Prime in Mexico, but it’s different to accounts using U.S. Prime and Amazon Prime from other countries.

You can enjoy Amazon prime Mexico shipping by signing up for the service.

To enjoy free shipping within Mexico, you must sign up for an Amazon Prime Mexico membership. This costs 99 MXN pesos monthly (about $6 USD).

Fortunately, promotional deals often offer a free month trial, so you can test it before committing to the monthly fee.

When you sign up for Amazon Prime in Mexico, you can also enjoy additional perks like Amazon Prime Video in Mexico, Prime Music, and other exclusive deals.

How long does Amazon take to deliver to Mexico?

It varies — I usually get everything in about 2-3 days with Prime, but I have waited up to two weeks for standard shipping.

ma delivering packages
Amazon shipping to Mexico depends on a lot of factors.

You’re usually given an estimated shipping time before you purchase so you can decide before you buy if the wait time is too long.

Understanding delivery times can help you plan better when ordering from Amazon in Mexico — so let’s do a deep dive into the question, How long does it take Amazon Mexico to deliver to your location?

Amazon Mexico Prime Shipping

For Mexican Amazon Prime members, the shipping experience in Mexico gets even better with expedited shipping options that significantly speed up delivery times.

Most eligible items will arrive at your doorstep in Mexico within 1 to 3 business days, making it a fantastic option for quick and reliable deliveries.

Buyers with deliveries that are near an Amazon Warehouse in Mexico, and/or deliveries in big cities, tend to get packages faster.

Amazon Mexico Standard Delivery Shipping

I’ve found that non-Prime items typically arrive in about four to seven business days for standard shipping.

If you’re in a rush, Amazon Mexico also offers priority shipping. This can reduce the wait time to about three to five business days, but has an additional cost.

The expedited shipping option is available for something in between. It provides a faster alternative to standard shipments, but is slower than priority.

Customs Clearance

Be aware that customs clearance can add shipping times to the overall delivery process if you are making an international order.

This can depend on factors like where the item comes from, the local customs process, and how busy the customs office is at that time.

I ordered a luggage set from Amazon USA to Mexico, and it took only an extra few days to clear customs — but I’ve heard it can take weeks in some cases.

Is Amazon Mexico delivery reliable?

Amazon Mexico’s delivery reliability varies depending on where you are in the country — but overall, it is reliable, safe and secure.

Note that Amazon Mexico in English isn’t guaranteed, as many drivers aren’t bilingual.

If you’re in a big city like Mexico City, Guadalajara or Monterrey, you can expect dependable deliveries, and some packages may arrive earlier than expected.

The experience can be less predictable in more remote areas, though if you need quicker deliveries, you can opt for an expedited shipping method.

What if I’m not home for my Amazon Mexico delivery?

Different vendors use different carriers, meaning tracking availability isn’t consistent.

Some let you follow your package every step of the way, while others provide little to no tracking info.

This can be super frustrating because the delivery driver won’t usually leave a package if no one’s home.

📦 Using Amazon Locker Delivery in Mexico

If you aren’t sure you’ll be home when your packages are scheduled to be delivered, you might want to use an Amazon pick-up point (AKA Amazon locker).

For this, pick the “Puntos de entrega Amazon en Oxxo” option when selecting your delivery address. It will show you pick-up points at Oxxo stores near your home.

Do note this only works for smaller packages that fit in a locker. With large items, you should plan to be home when the package arrives.

Can Amazon deliver to Mexico hotels?

Yes — Amazon can deliver to hotels in Mexico, making it convenient for travelers.

While most hotels offer this, you should check with the front desk before you order. To ensure successful delivery, here are the steps you’ll want to follow:

  1. Enter the hotel’s shipping address accurately.
  2. Communicate with the hotel staff to inform them of your incoming package.
  3. Provide a contact number because delivery drivers often call or text before they arrive.
  4. Use tracking, if available, to monitor your package’s status.

How much does Amazon charge to deliver in Mexico?

How much you are charged on your Amazon Mexico package depends on whether you choose standard shipping or if you have Amazon Mexico Prime.

Standard Shipping Cost

Standard shipping costs vary depending on your package’s size, weight, and destination in the country.

Amazon calculates shipping fees based on these factors, and displays the total cost at checkout.

This is also why it is super important to change your default shipping address when shopping online to get an accurate shipping cost.

Amazon Mexico Prime Shipping Cost

With an Amazon Prime membership in Mexico, you enjoy free shipping on many items, and discounted shipping on others.

This means eligible orders can arrive at your door without any additional delivery fees, adding value to your Prime membership.

Can you use a foreign credit card to use Amazon Mexico?

Yes — Your saved credit card details remain intact on all Amazon websites, including Amazon Mexico.

When ordering products from international sellers, you may have to pay import fees.

If you’ve set up credit cards or debit cards on your U.S. Amazon, Canadian Amazon, or UK Amazon account, they’ll automatically show up on amazon.com.mx when you log in with the same credentials.

This feature keeps things simple, and ensures you don’t have to re-enter your payment details.

Can I return items from Amazon Mexico?

Yes — If you receive an item from Amazon Mexico that doesn’t meet your expectations, you can easily return it.

Wondering how to return Amazon packages in Mexico? Here is the simple process:

  1. Head to amazon.com.mx, navigate to your orders, and click on “Devolver o reemplazar productos” (Return or replace items).
  2. The site will guide you step-by-step through printing or downloading your return label.
  3. For a full refund, most items must be returned within 30 days of delivery. However, the exact return policy may vary by seller, so review each product’s specific return terms before purchasing.

Remember to save the original packaging containing the shipping label and order codes you’ll need.

Once you’ve sent the item back, you can track the return status in your Amazon account.

Amazon will refund your credit card fully within 15 days of receiving the package. For defective items, explain the return clearly to receive your refund or replacement.

This approach allows SMBs to grow their customer base while utilizing Amazon’s e-commerce expertise and data-driven strategies for smarter business procurement.

Does Amazon ship to Mexico from the USA?

Yes — Amazon ships to Mexico directly from the United States.

You can order from amazon.com or use a forwarding service (more on those below) to receive your favorite products at your Mexican address.

Remember that international shipping may involve extra costs, such as import fees and taxes, so review the details before completing your purchase.

From personal experience, Amazon U.S. often includes these import fees in the product’s price, which prevents hold-ups at Mexican customs.

📦 Tips on Shipping Packages to Mexico

When shopping, set your Mexican address as the default to check if products can be shipped there.

If an item can’t be shipped to Mexico, it will say “this item does not ship to Mexico” or “this item is not available in your area” above the price.

For items that do ship, the estimated import and shipping fees will be shown to your chosen Mexican address.

📦 How much does Amazon charge to ship to Mexico from the US?

It depends on your location and the item, but the shipping price is shown to you before you hit the Buy button.

Many products available on Amazon Mexico are shipped from within the country, but you’ll also find items shipped from other Amazon marketplaces in the US and beyond — so international shipping costs can vary greatly.

What is a Mexican forwarding service?

A Mexican forwarding service, or package forwarding service, is a handy workaround when you face restrictions ordering directly from Amazon.

Can’t order the item you want? A Mexican forwarding service comes in handy during such situations.

📦 How forwarding service works

  1. The service provides you with a unique U.S. address where your Amazon orders can be sent.
  2. Once your package reaches their U.S. warehouse, they forward it to your Mexican address. It’s like having a personal delivery team to streamline the logistics.

Trusted names like Estafeta, MexPost, DHL, FedEx, and Aeropost offer reliable forwarding services, connecting U.S.-based retailers like Amazon with shoppers in Mexico.

This setup opens up a broader range of products while making international shipping straightforward.

How is Amazon in Mexico different from Amazon US?

shopping cart and packages | using Amazon in Mexico
Amazon Mexico often features local deals and discounts, particularly during major sales events.

Three main differences between Amazon Mexico and Amazon US include product selection, language options, and shipping/delivery options.

1. PRODUCT SELECTION

Amazon Mexico offers a more limited selection of products than Amazon U.S. This means some items available in the U.S. may not be found on the Mexican site.

2. LANGUAGE OPTIONS

While Amazon U.S. primarily operates in English, Amazon Mexico defaults to Spanish. However, users can switch to English if preferred.

3. SHIPPING AND DELIVERY OPTIONS

Amazon U.S. often provides a wider range of shipping options and faster delivery times than Amazon Mexico.

Additionally, Amazon Mexico includes local pickup points, such as Oxxo stores. This is the largest convenience store chain in Mexico.

Can I use my US Amazon Prime in Mexico?

No — Amazon Prime memberships are region-specific, so they only work in your country.

While your U.S. Amazon Prime membership is still valid, like Prime Video, the free shipping perks do not extend to purchases on amazon.com.mx.

To enjoy free shipping within Mexico, you must sign up for an Amazon Prime México membership, which costs 99 pesos (about $6 USD) monthly.

If you still want to watch videos in Mexico with your U.S. Prime account, some shows and movies available in the U.S. may not be accessible due to regional restrictions.

Other services like Prime Music, Amazon Music and Prime Reading could also be limited or unavailable in Mexico.

While U.S. Prime benefits like free shipping don’t apply in Mexico, Mexican Prime offers local benefits, including free shipping within Mexico and access to Prime Video content suitable for the region.

5 Tips for Shopping on Amazon Mexico

If you are just getting started on Amazon Mexico, I do have a couple of tips from my personal experience using Amazon while living in Mexico:

1. Set Your Shipping Address Correctly

Make sure your Mexican address is set up properly in your Amazon account and marked as the default.

This ensures the website shows you only items that can be delivered to your address in Mexico.

Without a properly configured address, you might see unavailable products or could incur additional shipping costs.

Double-check your address to avoid delays or missed deliveries and have a seamless shopping experience.

2. Compare Prices and Import Fees

Compare prices and import fees between Amazon U.S. and Amazon Mexico to maximize your savings.

Even after factoring in international shipping and import fees, certain products may be cheaper through the U.S. platform. And other products might not be.

Before deciding, check the total cost, including taxes and shipping. Sometimes, it’s also helpful to explore local alternatives to find what best suits your needs.

If you are paying with a foreign card, make sure that it has no foreign transaction fees to avoid paying extra (this also factors into the final cost of the item).

3. Utilize Local Pickup Points

woman writing on an amazon package
Pick up points are cheaper than door-to-door deliveries.

Instead of home delivery, you can pick up your Amazon orders from local pickup points, like Oxxo stores.

This can be particularly useful if you’re on the move or uncomfortable with home delivery.

Local pickup points often have flexible hours and can provide a secure alternative to your mailbox.

Check the location’s hours and have your ID ready when collecting your package.

4. Take Advantage of Amazon Prime Mexico

Sign up for Amazon Prime Mexico to access local benefits like free shipping and streaming services.

Membership also includes access to Prime Video, which provides a broad range of TV shows and movies.

In addition to fast delivery options, Prime members can save money and time by ordering eligible products without additional shipping fees.

5. Double-Check Return Policies

customer returning a package
Different stores have different return policies, so consider that before you check out the products.

Before making a purchase, carefully review each seller’s return policy to understand your options in case something goes wrong.

Policies may differ between vendors, and some items are non-returnable.

Ensure you retain the original packaging, as it may be needed for a return.

Knowing the return window and requirements upfront helps you make informed buying decisions and avoids potential hassles later.
