Note: When booking, go for the pool view or garden view, otherwise you’ll have a street view.

The rooms are basic but have all the necessary amenities you’d want when traveling to Huatulco Mexico like complimentary WiFi, a work desk, a safety deposit box and a TV.

We will certainly return. Great location… Really clean and fresh. The Beach Club was superb, [with a] lovely, clean and quiet beach.

This resort is particularly popular due to its fantastic location. Everything you need is just a short walk or drive away, including restaurants, shops, and beaches.

The resort is located steps from a local artisan market and is just a five minute drive from La Crucecita.

This area is part of downtown Huatulco Mexico, and known for its restaurants and shops.

The hotel is also a short walk to Playa Santa Cruz Beach and a 10- to 20-minute walk to the resort’s private Chahue Beach Club. A free shuttle bus is available if you’re not in a walking mood.

Chahue Beach Club at Castillo Huatulco is one of the main attractions of this hotel.

Umbrellas, palapas, or loungers are available, as well as a pool, a private bar, and a restaurant.

Along with Chahue Beach Club, which serves a buffet-style lunch, the hotel has two restaurants and two bars.

Other hotel amenities include swimming pools and a children’s playground area.

Although the perfect family Huatulco Oaxaca all inclusive resort, it’s also ideal for couples with a great location and fantastic customer service.

Best Neighborhoods in Huatulco Mexico

Wondering about the best area to stay in Huatulco? Or the safest neighborhoods in Huatulco?

When deciding on Huatulco accommodations, the first question you must ask is if you want to stay on the beach or in town.

If you want to stay at one of the best Huatulco hotels on the beach, there are a few distinct areas.

However, if you want to stay in town, opt for a place in La Crucecita, usually referred to as downtown Huatulco.

You’ll find information below on staying in the beaches of Huatulco and staying in downtown Huatulco.

Staying on Huatulco Beach

There are a few areas on Huatulco Beach where you can stay.

These include Bahía Tangolunda, where you’ll find most of the Huatulco all-inclusive resorts, Bahía Santa Cruz, the central area for all the beaches, and Bahía Chahue, where all the best beach clubs are.

🏝️ Tangolunda Bay, Huatulco Oaxaca

If you want to stay at an all inclusive Huatulco resort, this is the place. In my opinion, Tangolunda is one of the best beaches in Mexico.

If you want to stay in this area, opt for any of these great places:

🏝️ Bahía Conejos, Huatulco Oaxaca

Secrets is a Huatulco all inclusive resort, but also it has a premium all inclusive upgrade package.

Literally meaning “Bunny Bay,” Bahia Conejos Beach is a beautiful and secluded beach, which is usually only accessed by hotel guests.

Here, you’ll find Secrets Huatulco Resort & Spa, an adults only resort that’s perfect for a honeymoon in Huatulco or a romantic getaway.

It’s considered one of the best Huatulco hotels on the beach.

🏝️ Bahía Santa Cruz, Huatulco Oaxaca

While not in the exact center of town, Santa Cruz Huatulco is the center of activity among the beaches in Huatulco.

This is where the cruise ship docks, and there’s calm waters perfect for swimming. You can also find a lot of restaurants and tour operators here.

For hotels, opt for places near Playa La Entrega, on the west side of the bay — like Hotel Castillo Huatulco & Beach Club.

Bahía Santa Cruz is also where you’ll find the most Huatulco Airbnbs, condos and timeshares, with many located near the El Faro Huatulco Lighthouse.

Staying in Downtown Huatulco

downtown huatulco mexico

There isn’t really a Huatulco Downtown area, per se, but the nearby small town of La Crucecita is usually known as Huatulco Centro, or downtown.

This is a small area, subdivided by sectors. Sector H is downtown proper, right in the heart of all the action.

As one of the safest places in Mexico to travel, all of Huatulco’s sectors are safe, though Sector H3 isn’t the nicest.

Besides Sector H, the most expensive of them all, you’ll find some of the best Huatulco accommodations in Sector A, Sector E, Sector I, Sector M, Sector U and Sector U2.

Can you drink the water in Huatulco Mexico?

Maybe — While unfiltered Mexico tap water isn’t usually safe for human consumption, not for locals and not for visitors, some people do drink tap water in Huatulco (I don’t).

As a Mexico blogger, one of the most common questions I get is, Can I Drink the Water in Mexico?

Usually the answer is a resounding NO, but Huatulco is known to have some of the best water in Mexico.

Still, I don’t drink it because its not worth the risk for me.

While the water might be safe overall, if you want to err on the side of caution (like me) you must drink bottled water, or filter your own water.

♻️ Water-To-Go Reusable bottle with a filter

water bottles for oaxaca mexico with built in filter

Since single-use plastics are horrible for the planet, I recommend getting a water bottle with a built-in filter for your trips to Mexico.

The brand I personally use is called Water-To-Go.

Their three-stage filter eliminates 99.999999% of waterborne pathogens, bacteria, microorganisms, etc.

It also filters microplastics, chemicals and heavy metals, so you know you’re drinking only the purest water. (source)

I have partnered with them and they are generously offering my audience 15% OFF your total purchase price.

🚙💨 Renting a Car in Huatulco Mexico

This is the best way to get around because you’re not dependent on anyone, you just come and go as you please, staying anywhere you want for as long as you want.

You might be wondering, Are taxis safe in Huatulco?

For the vast majority of travelers, yes, you will be safe using taxis in Huatulco. They are also an inexpensive way to get around.

You can use them to get from Point A to Point B, but some drivers will also negotiate a day rate for you, and they will take you all over town for the day.

Is there Uber in Huatulco Mexico?

No — There’s no Uber in Huatulco, and there’s no Lyft in Huatulco, but there are taxis.

taxi in huatulco oaxaca mexico

If you don’t have a rental car, you’ll have to use taxis or public transportation in Huatulco.

Taxis will cost more than public transport, but they are also a lot more convenient.

🚌 Public Transportation in Huatulco Mexico

Huatulco public transportation is pretty good, but also very limited. Unlike taxis, don’t expect bus drivers to speak English.

If you do want to use public transport in Huatulco, make sure you have change and small bills to pay the driver; as many won’t make change for large bills.

What’s the best time to visit Huatulco Mexico?

Weather-wise, the best time to visit Huatulco is from November to March.

You’ll have no rain (or very little), low humidity, and no mosquitoes (or very few). With perfect weather, however, comes larger crowds and higher price tags.

  • Huatulco Busy Season: November to March
  • Huatulco Slow Season: May to September
  • Huatulco Shoulder Season: October and April
  • Huatulco Rainy Season: April to September
  • Huatulco Dry Season: October to March

If you’re traveling to Huatulco on a budget, you’ll want to visit during the slow summer season.

For the best value, but still nice weather, plan your visit during what’s called the “shoulder season,” a magical time right in-between the high season and low season.

What is the hottest month in Huatulco?

May — While May is technically the hottest month, the months of May to October are generally very hot and sunny, so don’t forget your sunscreen for Mexico.

What’s the best time to see whales in Huatulco?

The Huatulco whale season runs from about November to April — but the best time to see them is from mid-December to March.

whale breaching in huatulco mexico, oaxaca state
One of the best things to do in Huatulco in winter is go whale watching.

During this time, you can book this boat tour with a marine biologist and go into the Pacific Ocean to (hopefully) see everything from Pacific gray whales and orcas to humpback whales.

On the tour, you’ll also likely see dolphins, mobula rays, manta rays and sea turtles.

Can you swim in the ocean in Huatulco?

Yes — While not all beaches are swimming beaches in Huatulco, because some have very large waves, you can swim, snorkel and dive in many places in Huatulco Mexico.

How do you pronounce Huatulco?

If you’re wondering that, you’re not alone! Let’s actually clear up the Huatulco pronunciation right now — Huatulco is pronounced wah-tool-koh.

Is Huatulco worth visiting?

Yes — Huatulco is perfect for those who want to venture off the beaten path in Mexico, but still enjoy the country’s beaches.

It has great resorts, similar to Cancun, Cabo and Puerto Vallarta (minus the large crowds), great tourism infrastructure, and it’s safe for tourists.

The only people who might disagree are those who want to party hardy.

If you’re wondering, Is Huatulco worth a visit for the nightlife?, then the answer is no. For this, head to Tulum, Sayulita and Cabo San Lucas.

I only recommend Huatulco for those who want to enjoy some of the best beaches in Mexico, relaxation, and rugged Oaxaca nature.

Huatulco is still quite underdeveloped, and remains a Mexico hidden gem. Huatulco is great for daytime activities, but limited in its nightlife.

There are some bars in nearby La Crucecita, but even the bars at the best Huatulco resorts will close by 10pm-11pm.

Huatulco is stunningly beautiful — and you’re in for a treat.

There’s more than 22 miles (35 km) of coastline in Bahias de Huatulco Oaxaca, Mexico, and nine lovely bays that will take your breath away.
